GOOD-BYES
By: Judy A. Andres
We said good-bye just like before
In a flippant sort of way.
For we both thought that it would be
Just like any other day.
You left, we hugged, a quick passing hug ~
A formality at best.
We did not know t'would be our last ~
There'd be no more requests.
You'd never say good-bye again,
Nor ask for hugs at the door.
Your presence that I'd always loved
Would be present here no more.
We take so much for granted,
Each time we say good-bye,
Expecting that again we'll meet
After the day's gone by.
Yet if we'd ever stop and think,
And ponder for awhile...
Each time we say it, the reality is,
It could be our last good-bye.
